The Househunter 27/11/15

It’s Friday so it must be time for a little nose around someone else’s house for a change. This week we’re starting off in The Old Courthouse, in west London. It’s on the market for £2,495,000 with Domus Nova should you be planning to win the lottery this weekend. I know I am.

This two bedroom flat was originally court room no 1, although sadly the estate agent details don’t tell us if any notorious cases were tried there.

It was done up by Sigmar, a collaboration between interior designer Ebba Thott and furniture specialist Nina Hertig and if you like the look you can buy pieces in this style in their shop. Their design philosophy is to create modernist spaces that are warm and personal.

One of the ways they have done this is by mixing old and new. That giant wooden cabinet behind the kitchen is an unexpected choice but one that looks fantastic with the sleek modern cabinets.

The raw edge table also looks fantastic against the classic chairs and wall lights. While the black accents of the photos on the picture ledges bring some depth and definition to the space. There’s also quite a lot of colour in this room below but the overall effect is one of space and calm. Definitely need that lottery ticket this weekend….

In the meantime where shall we poke our noses in next? Shall we nip over to New York? Seeing as it’s their special day today? Worrabout this loft then? It’s on Sixth Avenue and it will cost you $2,250,000 via Sotheby’s International.

Awful isn’t it? Nothing to be thankful for there. There’s even a little courtyard through the arched windows (hands up whose brain went immediately to Playschool then… just me?). And we’re liking those dark grey walls. I might change the plastic chairs though.

Mind you, the garden is shared so I’ve gone off it rather. I’m an only child, I’m not very good at that. So, on balance, I’m thankful that I haven’t got to spend two million quid on a fabberless loft apartment in Soho, New York, with a shared garden. What about you?

Well, all right then, if we’re doing thanking, I would like to thank all of you readers for your continued presence. Now, enough soppiness, we’re British. Be off with you and go fill in those lottery tickets.
