Hello and welcome to the newly decorated Mad House, if you didn’t have time to drop in over the weekend, do have a wander round now. These 10 Beautiful Rooms look even better in their new surroundings don’t you think? We start off with this beautifully moulded concrete basin and grey walls. The brass cabinet brings warmth and the flower softness to this coolest of colours and toughest of materials.
More grey walls in this fabulous room from Dutch blogger Monica at The Moon House. I love the richness of that velvet sofa against the rough wooden beams and that wonderful dried flower in its giant pot.
A different treatment for the walls this time as the owner of this kitchen has panelled them in tongue and groove. I love this idea. A friend of mine has just done this in her kitchen and it looks amazing. It warms the room up and softens it, which is particularly good if the kitchen is doubling up as a family room as they so often do these days. Taking it right up to the ceiling also makes the walls look taller.
I imagine that this attic room is pretty tiny and certainly that sloping ceiling isn’t encouraging anyone to stand up in a hurry, but the simple decor makes the best of the space. White walls and floors will bounce the natural light around while the black accents in the chairs and picture frames give definition. Finally the wooden stools and table soften the lines.
This kitchen is a great example of contrasting materials; those metal chairs could be cold and hard but the monumental table with its raw edge softens it all. I’d love a table like this, Norr11 do one if you would too. In the meantime I have just bought a chopping board with a raw edge. Similar idea smaller scale.
I came across this kitchen company the other day and love those black cupboards and open shelves. In another colour, this would be a very traditional kitchen but the black brings a real contemporary feel and an edge to it.
That kitchen led me to this apartment in Cornwall which you can stay in and I’m very tempted. I love the massive copper sink against the black cupboards and the rustic wooden benches and butcher’s block. This is definitely one for the Pinterest board of kitchen inspiration I think.
Sticking with black, this inky room is gorgeous. I’m not sure I would have the courage to paint an entire room black but it makes for a great picture doesn’t it? Especially with that bronze throw bouncing the light around. Actually if you had a large round mirror over the bed and a couple of brass wall lights, I might start considering it.
An easier way into black might be to start with the floor. We’ve all got very used to white painted floorboards now and I still love mine, but these dark ones in the image above look fantastic. They look great with the grey walls and white kitchen and the wood and black and white accents in the furniture tie the whole space together.
It’s a similar scheme below but with pale floors. The nest of black tables and the black picture frame really finish this space off. It might be a little bland without that to give it some depth.
So there we have this week’s edition of 10 Beautiful Rooms in their newly decorated house. What do you think?
