I have a hand steamer I use on all my screens. Yes, my screens with the steamer! You do not have to remove the screen. I live in Southern California, so my windows are open daily. Dish Soap and Vinegar

We all know that plastic mini blinds are magnets for filth, and they're nearly impossible to clean without kicking a ton of dust into the air. Next time you tidy up the house, try giving the blinds a bath.

All you have to do is lay the blinds flat in your bathtub, mix some dish soap and a little vinegar with a few inches of warm water, and let them soak for about an hour. Once the blinds are clean, rinse them off with fresh water to get rid of soap residue, then hang them back up to dry. Dry Cleaning

• The dry cleaning takes about half an hour. Soaking takes longer, but you can do several blinds at once.
• If you're taking down many similar blinds at once, it's a good idea to label them so that you know which windows and which rooms they came from. You can write directly on them with a permanent marker on the side that goes toward the window frame. It should be invisible when the blinds are in place.
• The convex side of the slats collects the most dust; make sure to give it special attention.
