The Househunter 6/5/16

Well this is pretty isn’t it? It’s a three bedroom mews house in Camden, which has been refurbished by the designer and fashion stylist Kate Halfpenny, and for those of you who aren’t clear exactly who she is, she is a wedding dress designer who is mates with Kate Moss, which puts this into context perfectly I think.

It’s on the market with The Modern House for £1,350,000. The downstairs is pretty much as you see it – a large open plan space which leads into the all-white kitchen. I’m quite liking the tongue and groove walls – what do we think of those?

Also – check the ceiling carefully. There is a spare hook so that if you want to move the table out of the way – if Mossy is coming round for a party for example and you need space for dancing (because the ceiling is not high enough for dancing ON the table) you can simply hang the light from the hook by the window. This idea is increasingly common (the Scandinavians have been doing it for years and I am always suggesting it to clients) as it’s such a good way to have flexibility in your lighting scheme.

Also – note how the plants bring so much to the scheme. She has included them in every room and it works really well espeically in this rather elegant bedroom below where the plant by the bed links to the roof terrace. Can’t you just see yourself strolling out there in your dressing gown for a little al fresco breakfast? Or perhaps dinner if Mossy was round the night before and you didn’t go to bed till after breakfast in the first place….

It’s for sale with Knight Frank for £5.5m (I know there’s always a hitch isn’t there) but you do get to see some of the most iconic (and I use the word advisedly) views in the world including Buckingham Palace and St James Park. The apartment is in Whitehall Court, which was where the British Secret Intelligence Service was based until the end of WWI.

There are two bedrooms, three receptions and two bathrooms. Some of the ceilings are seven meters high and it’s spread over the seventh and eighth floors. I think the key to this one is to find out who buys it and make friends with them.

I rather like the mix of the industrial look with the exposed beams and bricks and the more traditional furniture. Although I think it could take a lesson from the property above and have a few plants dotted about.

Basically though it just comes back to this view. Now, if anyone is thinking of putting in an offer do let me know. I’ll be round for the housewarming  (I may not leave).
