10 Beautiful Rooms

We’re starting in the bathroom this week. That may seem strange to you but as I’m planning our bathroom refurbishment I’m drawn to that particular space and the rest of you will have to come with me. But why wouldn’t you when you can see this gorgeous wallpaper below. It’s Derwent by Osborne and Little and I found in the the bathroom of The Pink House.

Apart from the gorgeous colour combination of brass and grey and white metro tiles, I also wanted you to see it because some of you might have a room like this. Let’s be honest – it’s pretty small AND it’s got a sloping ceiling so it didn’t have much going for it in the beginning. But look at it now.

The clever thing (cue slight gnashing of teeth as I wish I had thought of it) is the wall-mounted sitting shower. This is a very similar size to the bathroom in our loft and we just fixed a shower attachment to the tap so that it would be easier to clean. This means you can have a shower/wash your hair/clean the bath while sitting in the bath and it looks good too. One to make a note of I think.

These next few rooms are from the newly developed Gorki apartments in the Mitte district of Berlin. I’m coming round to green in interiors and I love this bathroom with the Fornasetti cloud wallpaper contrasting with the green tiles. Note also the black and white tiles laid to look like a rug or bathmat.

Who doesn’t love a plain black and white bathroom? This is prevented from being clinical with the wooden storage unit – and I’m noting that. I’m sure you could find a carpenter to build something similar and the deep drawers would hold all those lotions and potions upright in their bottles so you could keep the top clutter free.

Leaving the bathroom for this kitchen in the same apartment blog. This rustic table looks great agains the sleek glass splashback. I think I would have swapped that for some antique foxed glass though as that’s my current obsession.

Lastly, in these apartments, this reading area with its trompe l’oeil wallpaper of books. It’s black and white so it doesn’t look hyper real but the soft grey – or is it mint chair with its bold gold cushion really brings this space to life.

Back to dark bedrooms, always a winner for me although this is clearly a styling shot rather than a real bedroom as I can’t imagine a real person would put the bed in front of the French windows. Looks great in a picture though and I definitely like the rows of books at the foot of the bed. That looks good. And once you’d tripped over them a couple of times on your way to the loo in the middle of the night you’d learn they were there…

This is another image from The Pink house in a feature about creating a kids craft zone. Well never mind that, I’m more taken with the blackboard door which looks to me as if it has a GOLD architrave. I know. What do we think of that? I definitely would. I haven’t, but I would. If my husband would let me. Which he mightn’t.

Still with the door love, notice how these dark architraves really frame the view beyond. Suddenly a white door frame looks a bit rubbish. A bit like it’s just being a door frame to hold the door up when it could be multi-tasking and doing something useful like holding the door up and giving you a view with a room. More noting to be done here people. This is a very noteworthy week.

Finally, this from the Shootfactory which is a collection of gorgeous houses that are available for locations. They’ve redone their website and it’s lovely to browse around. This room is so simple and yet so lovely. Well, it needs a rug but apart from that.

And there you have it – ten rooms for a Monday. I hope you liked them. Now where’s my notebook…
