The Househunter 22/1/16

Good Morning househunters. Or Nosey Parkers depending on which camp you fall into….I’m definitely in the latter these days and no shame in that I say. So then, where shall we go today? Let’s begin with a trip over to west London to see this two bedroom garden maisonette which is on the market for – if you’re sensitive look away now – £2,500,000 via Domus Nova.

Now once you’ve got over the shock of the price, it’s a pretty good gaff. There’s a large sitting room and dining room, a good size kitchen which leads onto that glass eating area. The master bedroom has a dressing room, separate sitting room and its own bathroom. The sitting room could be used as an occasional third bedroom too.

The whole internal space is almost 1900 sq feet which was about the size of this whole house before we did the loft so that gives you an idea of the size of it.

This is a fantastic bedroom too although I would be sorely tempted to paint that wall in dark grey and keep it all more monochrome – particularly with that fantastic Orla Keily blanket.

Right moving away from that we’re off to Islington now to see this enormous white house below.

This is on the market with Currells for – wait for it – £8,500,000. Shall I wait while you pick yourselves up off the floor? The thing is we weren’t going to trump the beauty of last week’s house so we had to go for something completely different this week. And this is, clearly a beautiful house. In an amazing location. And it’s detached, which may seem normal to people reading in the country, or in other countries come to that, but in London that’s an extraordinary thing.

Inside it’s all very open plan, which, as I have observed before, is fine when your children are small and you need to supervise, but less good when they won’t go upstairs before 11pm and like to listen to a spot of thrash metal while doing their homework. It’s just impossible for Newsnight to compete with that frankly. Even in the days when Paxman was shouting at everyone. Now that it’s gentle Evan Davies you can forget it. You need walls. And closing doors.

But it is a great space and I love the bold use of dark grey which ties all the spaces together. You can see from this how grey goes well with both modern and antique furniture as well as so many colours including tan leather, purple and blue.
