Shall we head to Brighton first? At the time of writing the sun is shining high low in a cloudless almost clear sky and I feel like a bit of seaside is in order. This five bedroom house is on the market with Fine and Country and it is rather splendid isn’t it?
Or perhaps it’s not at all your sort of thing. I’d definitely fancy a long weekend here. In August rather the February admittedly, but come inside for a wander round. Now what do you think? The main house actually has four bedrooms, the fifth is in a self-contained one bedroom annexe – perfect for Granny. Or the au pair. Or perhaps even the grumpy teenager and his/her music.
The spaces are, as you can tell, E-normous and while I love that, it does feel like the owners don’t quite have enough stuff to make it homely. I could fill it… let’s start with a big rug in that sitting room – at the moment it’s just three pieces of furniture. A rug would bring it all together. I wrote a post about that if you’re interested: The Rules of Rug Layout.
And I’d have a much bigger table and a sofa or couple of comfy leather chairs for drinking coffee and looking at the view. But hang on – you should probably see this:
Yes. That isn’t just a wine cellar, it is, by the looks of things basically a champagne cellar. And a happy Friday to you all too.
Going for a change of pace here and this eight bedroom house was used as a base by Henry VIII so we can assume this too was a party house. Besides which you know I can never resist a castle.
There aren’t many pictures inside but when the hall looks like this I’m in. It’s on the market for £2,950,000 with Fine and Country and is located in the north Norfolk village of Fakenham.
It was built in 2520 and has a separate three-bedroom cottage and a gatehouse. Sadly there aren’t too many details on the website, they presumably want to encourage serious buyers to ring up but that is a lovely hall for a Friday isn’t it.
Now, I suppose you’ll be wanting some between the extreme modern and the extreme old won’t you? How about this? A mix of both old ancient and contemporary. Blackmore End, in Essex, is on the market with The Modern House for £1,100,000.
Look at those wonderful beams juxtaposed with a mix of antique and modern furniture. It works really well doesn’t it. This barn can be arranged to provide five bedrooms if required and there’s also a former stable building that can be used as office/studio space.
What do you think? Who’s moving where this week? Frankly I think I might need all three, they all have different purposes and I could fancy each of them in their way. What about you?
