Custom Sectional White Lodge Whistler Cabin

What happens when a sculptural artist and an outside the box thinking architect build their personal cabin…something awesome calling for a custom sectional! Designed by Vancouver's beloved Piers Cunnington from Measured Architecture Inc.  and Sculptural artist Fei Disbrow  this Whistler cabin is a one of a kind get away.

At Address 2016, we had the pleasure of meeting these two amazing local talents who approached us about their custom sectional project. The dilemma they were facing was that their cabin did not have a single straight angle wall, making it impossible for them to buy a sofa off the floor. We were excited to have the opportunity to contribute to their beautiful space of course. After all, what is more important in a cabin than having a cozy sofa to snuggle up into during these cold snowy nights?

The initial conversations focused on creating a piece that was completely one off, using natural materials, latex foam options and had an emphasis on creating comfortable seating. A month after the show they sent over drawings contacting us for a quote. Following that Celina had a meeting with them to discuss their needs where she went to their house so she could sit on some of their furniture. This gave insight on aspects they liked and things they didn't. The next step in the process Celina drafted a drawing of the  design which they approved. Their onsite contractor measured the exact angle of the wall which the frame would need to be built to and then the balling started rolling!

The sectional frame was built entirely out of hardwood and the entire piece is made of 100% solid natural latex foam which gives it a comfortable bouncy spring to it. They came in for a sit test to make sure it was as comfortable as they anticipated and we're happy to report that it did not disappoint!

An interesting fact about this project, Ravi from Cloth Studio created custom window coverings that sit in the same room as our sectional. They are made out of an unusual fabric, not typically used for curtains, which is also a fabric that Fei uses in her sculptures and she wanted to try out something different.

Their cabin is truly a unique space designed with beautiful lines and funky angles, we are proud to have our piece in their home and hope that they love it for a long time.
