Collect Lighting by Ferm Living

It's possible we have all become very spoilt these days. One of the things the internet has done is make it easier for small designer makers to get their stuff out in front of potential clients. This is, of course, utterly brilliant for both them and us. This has led, in turn, to many manufacturers, who make to order, being able to tweak designs to suit the client. Also brilliant.

It means, however, that we have become used to a HUGE amount of choice and, writing as someone whose husband is paralysed by more than four choices on a menu, that can make life difficult. I mean  clearly choice is great. But it can slow down the decision-making process can't it?

Take these lamps below. This is a perfect example. The new Collect Lighting from Ferm Living allows you to choose between 12 different sockets – long or shot and then shades of blue and grey as well as black, rose, rose pink and brass.

Then you need to decide on the lampshade. Do you want small disc shade, or a wider flatter record shade (pale grey and black in the image above). Or perhaps you want a cone? Or a dome?

Then there are the colours. Black or dark blue? Grey? Light or dark? Pink? Maybe plain brass?

See what I mean. I love these lights and its wonderful that we can have exactly what we want for our homes. But the question is -what exactly do we want? Because the choices are huge.

I'm going to go for a long black socket and a brass disc shade. I thought I was being original but now I scroll back up I see it's second from the right on the image. And now that I've seen that I want the pink and grey cone next to it.

Decisions decisions. You know how this would work really well? As a group of three over and island or a table. That way you can have three that are recognisably from the same collection but you get to mix up the shapes and colours. Brilliant. Now we've got three decisions to make instead of one…
