It’s like meeting a stockbroker and saying “what stock should I buy?”

There are a tonne of investment vehicles in the stock market, just like there are tonne of investment vehiAcles when it comes to real estate.  

You see, when I work with my clients, I keep it simple.  

 

Are you buying for cash flow OR capital appreciation?

 

There are a lot more factors that I consider.  What’s your risk tolerance?  Where do you like to invest?  Where would you like to specialize in?  Do you like short term or long term investments?  How hands on are you?  Do you like being a landlord?  Are you good with numbers?  What is your 2 year, 5 year and 10 year goal?  How many properties do you want to own at the end of 10 years?  And the list of questions go on and on…

You see, it’s my goal to help investors generate quick profits through a buy and flip strategy and accumulate long term wealth through a buy and hold and various cash flow strategies.

Brass Disc Pendant Light

We have all become very used to the idea of changing the white plastic electric cord on our pendant lights to one that is made from twisted or plain cable. This simple act removes something ugly and replaces it with something that is a proper decorative detail at a stroke. In short, why wouldn’t you? They come in every colour of the rainbow from metallics to neons and it’s one of those tiny things that makes a huge difference.

Recently, however, I have started to notice another version of this idea. It’s that of hiding the cable altogether by encasing it in a metal tube. This works brilliantly in rooms where you are planning to use a naked bulb as it gives the whole thing bit more presence. For example, we have, in our bedroom, a single Lee Broom crystal bulb. It’s very beautiful, but it’s a big room and that single bulb is a bit lost in there. Unfortunately at nearly £100 a pop we won’t be adding another two to join it and so it hangs, rather forlornly, over the bed on its own.

However, if the cable were encased in brass to match the bulb holder, it would have a more weight (literally) and would probably be able to hold its own in the large space. I give you Exhibit A; the brass disc light from Mink Interiors. See what I mean?

It’s an idea that grew out of the industrial look and I have seen it used to great effect in offices where the tubes are often painted in bright colours to match exposed pipes running across the ceiling. Great if you live in a loft, less appropriate for a Victorian terrace. In which case you can try this, a more refined version but one that allows you to stick with the naked bulb idea. Incidentally you can buy those bulbs in all shapes and sizes so if you do have a big room then buy a big bulb.

The diameter of the brass disc is 27cm and the length of the tube is 70cm (with three metres of cable to play with) so this would work in a large room as it’s a decent size.

Fancy one? I do, I just need to decide where to put it…

For anyone who liked the brass and copper shelves with lights there is a white version  as well as this rope pendant light which is another way to deal with the problem of the small naked bulb/big room issue. See how it looks better than the usual thin cable? It’s £65 by the way.
