It was due to time for a Fabulous photoshoot

Lights, Camera, Action: Fabulous Furnishings & Zoë Pawlak Take One!

A few weeks ago we had the pleasure of working with our dear friend Zoë Pawlak and Bright Photography's Brittney Kwasney! We took Vancouver by the storm with a full day photoshoot. As many of you know, Zoë Pawlak's work is featured at our showroom in North Vancouver and we teamed up together along with the gracious help of few our dearest clients and the talented Brittney Kwasney to photograph some of our favourite pieces and her artwork.

The day was filled with laughter and fun in between hustling from shoot to shoot getting into all sorts of positions for that perfect angle. Vancouver weather had some moments true to its reputation but we never let a little rain put a stop to the fun!

We always love seeing the end result of a project when the piece is complete and it's such a joy being able to see one of our bespoke furniture pieces, this client's custom sectional, grow with love in their home and turned into a staple part of the room.

Drapery and blinds as the finished product seen inside a client's house truly displays the difference window coverings can make. The children's rooms curtains are an excellent compliment to our client's stellar taste in bedding and art; they compliment her decorating choices flawlessly!

Our clients have amazing taste, as proven by this client's home. It was such a pleasure shooting this sofa set we reupholstered a few years ago. It was an action packed day but we loved everyone moment of it. Big Thank you to the lovely Zoë Pawlak and Bright Photography's Brittney Kwasney for going on the road with us and making this adventure worth the ride!

Make sure to head over to our gallery page to see the rest of the photos from the day and stop by the showroom to see Zoë Pawlak's artwork on display.

3 Creative Places to Hide Your Home Security Cameras

Hiding your security cameras in unique and creative places may give you the extra protection needed to help protect your home and family from theft. Here are 3 creative places to hide your home security cameras.

sc-300x300

In a Potted Plant
Get creative! Your camera will not be so easily spotted if you hide it inside a nondescript household object. Make sure to use something that you would usually keep in your room or office; an out-of-place object may arouse suspicion.
Consider hiding the camera in the leaves of a potted plant or deep in the recesses of a bookshelf–anywhere that someone will be unlikely to look closely. Make sure that the camera lens is pointing where you need it to point. Source: wikiHow

In a Bird Box
An ordinary bird nesting box can make a fantastic disguise for a camera. Choose a style that is completely enclosed, with just a small hole in the front for birds to enter and exit. The lens of a small bullet camera can sit just behind this hole, capturing everything that happens outside your property without being seen. If you are using a wired camera security system, then you will need to drill a hole in the rear of the box for the cables. A wireless security camera can simply be placed inside the box and connected wirelessly to the home security network. You can then mount the box on the side of your house or on a garden wall or fence. The advantage of using a bird box as a disguise, rather than a garden ornament or rock, is that you can use a high vantage point, which could give you a better view of intruders' faces. Source: eBay

Under a Light Switch
We learned that it worked perfectly well with the iCam software and their tech support was familiar with this unit. It took all of 15 minutes to set it up via a web browser while being wired to our computer.
We made the square cut using an X-acto knife and got the power from our friendly AC outlet, snaked the wires through the opening and started working with the blank light switch plate template for the lens and status light's openings.
This took a little bit of trial and error, but we finally found the perfect location. We used a regular hot glue gun to attach the camera (which we stripped from its pedestal base to minimize footprint) to the switch plate.  Source: ApartmentTherapy

Mini Corn Dogs

Are you into corn dogs? Corn batter dipped deep fried deliciousness is totally my jam. So much so that once, on a camping trip, I brought along a box of frozen corn dogs so Mike and I could roast them over...

The Househunter 1/4/16

Starting off this week's viewings with a look at this converted Art Deco warehouse in Hackney, east London. This is on the market for £645,000 via The Modern House and consists of  two bedrooms in a split level apartment.

02_20160322-DSC_9861-Edit-WEB-950x634

Formerly a clothing factory, it has been divided into 89 units and this one has been completely refurbished by the owners.
20160322-DSC_9693-WEB-950x634

The wow factor is the double height reception room with full length glass doors that open onto a roof terrace. The upstairs mezzanine has been converted into one bedroom and, currently, one study but you could use it as a second bedroom if you fancied.
01_20160322-DSC_9760-WEB-950x634

The light and space are wonderful aren't they. I'd lay down a few rugs but I could happily spend time in this one, what about you?

05_20160322-DSC_9608-WEB-950x634

Where shall we go next? Shall we stick with the converted factory/warehouse theme? This one is in Fulham, west London, and is on the market for £2,500,000 also with The Modern House.

03_20160310-DSC_7031-WEB-950x634

Now, I'll admit I wasn't sure about this when I first saw it but as I went round (virtually obvs) I noticed some clever tricks and decided that I was quite keen after all.

Firstly I like the unusual colour on the walls, which has been carried through the main living area, including the kitchen.

04_20160310-DSC_7049-WEB-950x634

Secondly, I like these two huge mirror panels and spent some time thinking that they were actually doorways to the back of the apartment. In addition, the way they have been framed stops them looking like fitted wardrobes from the 1980s so if you're thinking of going big with the mirror then bear that in mind as a tip.

Using mirrors as large as this gives the impression that it's an internal window, another of my favourite things as regular readers will know. In fact, I would be tempted to paint the frames black to really, erm, frame the view.

20160310-DSC_7208-WEB-950x634

This colour works really well in the kitchen too doesn't it? It's just a bit more interesting than white, and I'm sitting in a white kitchen as I speak/type.

20160310-DSC_7182-WEB-950x634

This room also really speaks to me. I'm definitely starting to wonder about the dark stained wooden floorboards thing at the moment. They look amazing with the pale grey walls and cupboards. It's the opposite of what I have now which is pale floors and dark walls and I really don't have the strength to start again…oh God….

Finally though I wanted to show you the mirror trick again, this time in the bathroom, which is clearly quite a small space but looks much large and lighter for this.

So there you have it, two converted warehouses this week. Which one do you fancy?
