4 Christmas Party Hosting Tips

Christmas is only a week away. If you still don’t have a solid plan on how to host that holiday party everyone is looking forward to, then here are some great tips to help you lighten the load.

4 Christmas Party Hosting Tips

Create food beforehand

If you’ve decided to host a cocktail party, put together a list of the appetizers you’d like to serve. We suggest using recipes that can be made in advance, which will save you time and energy on the day of the party.  Source: MarthaStewart

Set the mood with good music

Very little has the impact on a scene like the music selection, and mellow is the epitome of elegance. You want to create a setting for guests so that they spend their evening relaxed and comfortable, and the tempo of the music you choose will play a large part in that. But mind you, you don’t want them to get so comfortable that they fall asleep. A tasteful playlist for an elegant Christmas party could include a mix of traditional Christmas songs and some classic jazz thrown in to keep the tempo up. Source: Lifestyle.HowStuffWorks

Keep the food warm in the oven

“A 200-degree oven works as a warming drawer,” says Kelsey Nixon, the host of Kelsey’s Essentials, on the Cooking Channel. This also frees up counter space and provides insurance that your food won’t burn if you forget to take it out. Source: RealSimple

Delegate tasks

Share out tasks between the family to ensure a hassle-free evening. One person could be in charge of laying the table, whilst another takes care of drinks – allowing you to focus on food preparation. Be appreciative of everyone’s effort – encouragement and praise can go a long way! Source: GoodHousekeeping

Did you know that one of the things people notice most upon entering a home is the floor? Don’t let your carpet become the talk of the town due to its dinginess. Have it cleaned or repaired before your party. Call us today!

Signs of a Bad Carpet Installation

When installing carpet on your floor, it’s best to let the professionals handle it. However, you still must choose the right contractor for the job because poor installation can result in the following problems:

Signs of a Bad Carpet Installation

Buckling or Rippling

When a wall-to-wall carpet is installed, it must be stretched tightly and then is secured in place with tack strips along the edges of the carpet. If the installer has not stretched the carpet tightly enough, it may loosen slightly, which could cause it to ripple. Ideally, carpet should be stretched during the installation using a power stretcher, which will reduce the chances of buckling.

If the carpet is being installed in an area in which the conditions are significantly different than where it was previously stored (for example, from an unheated warehouse to a heated home), then the carpet should be allowed to acclimate before installation. This should reduce the possibility of buckling. Source: TheSpruce

Loosening of Seams

Inspect the seams where the carpet meets the walls, baseboards, doorways or other types of flooring. If you see frayed or loose edges that aren’t neatly tucked under the walls, floorboards or transitional carpet strips, the carpet isn’t installed well. Carpet installers often secure edges with additional tacks, carpet tape, transition strips or adhesives to reduce the likelihood of carpet separating from the wall or unraveling at the corners. Contact the installer to repair any unsightly seams. Source: HomeGuides.SFGate

Bubbling

It’s a common situation for homeowners to have their carpet cleaned only for it to dry and bubbles to emerge. While they might think the cleaning was to blame, this is far more often the result of carpet that was not properly stretched before it was installed. This problem can easily be averted by pulling and stretching the carpet over carpet tacks. Source: TheSpruce

We have been in the business for over 20 years so you can rest assured knowing that your carpeting is in safe hands. Contact us today!

Preparing your strata for an exterior painting project

Decision making can be a challenge in any strata corporation; especially when investing significant funds into maintenance such as an exterior re-painting project. Here is some friendly advice to get started and provide your council with a solid foundation for your planning.

Establish a Scope of Work

A proper scope of work means determining what needs to be painted and what does not. Having clear consensus from council before calling contractors will save time and money. There are painting inspectors who can help you decide what to re-paint and which products to use (search online for Painting Inspectors in your area or call us for info on who we see in the market). If your strata decides to establish the scope of work on your own, the first step is to review your existing surfaces and note any areas of concern. Use the following checklist to help ensure you cover all the areas.

One way we’ve found helpful to assess a property is to print out an overhead from Google Maps. Then during a comprehensive 1- 2 hour walk around the property, make notes on the sheet about the affected areas.

Walk-through Checklist

Here is a list of common surface types to consider for re-painting and possible repair:

  • wood siding
  • composite siding
  • vinyl siding
  • stucco
  • concrete
  • brick
  • soffits
  • fascia & trim
  • wood windows
  • decks/patios
  • railings
  • metal surfaces
  • light standards
  • pillars
  • shakes
  • doors/frames
  • garage doors
  • metal Cladding
  • privacy fencing
  • perimeter fencing
  • decorative features
  • other

Other considerations are:

  • existing leaks
  • balcony membranes
  • window perimeters
  • sealant repairs
  • wood trims
  • metal flashings
  • attachments
  • roof membrane

Prepare a budget and plan to raise funds

It is always best practice to start planning early and give yourselves ample time to make your decisions. In some cases, this means 1-2 years before the project, in other cases 6 months can be enough time.

If you’ve taken the time to get council consensus on the scope of work, then getting a budget quote will be fairly simple.  It will also be more useful because it will be an accurate amount to use for planning and approval. Remdal often provides budget quotations for projects. If you need assistance with a budget quote, we have estimators available to help you.

And now that you have a better idea of the amount of money required, your focus can turn to raising funds though your Contingency Reserve fund (3/4 vote), Special Levy (3/4 vote) or from a Depreciation Report (majority vote). This is a choice that varies from one strata to another depending on many factors.

Next steps

Over the following months you will want to give your project the best opportunity for success, but taking some additional steps including:

  • building a strong business case for owners;
  • assessing and choosing your colours;
  • inviting qualified painting contractors;
  • evaluating and selecting the best proposal;
  • identifying best practices to help the job go smoothly;
  • the science of finishing well.

We’ll cover these items in upcoming blogs.

4 Tips to Prepare Your Home for Winter

Don’t let the cold winter air bother you. Protect your home from the chill by taking note of these simple tips:

4 Tips to Prepare Your Home for Winter

Install carpet

No one wants to be stepping onto a cold floor and they jump out of bed in winter! If you’ve been thinking of carpeting your home, or even just the bedrooms, now is the time! Your toes will thank you for it. Source: HomesToLove

Have an energy audit

If you’ve never had one, a professional energy audit is a good investment. But fall is also a good time just to check your door seals. Make sure you’re not seeing daylight around your exterior doors, and take a can of spray foam insulation and fill in around those drafty outlets and light switches. Source: WashingtonPost

Change furnace filters

Dirty furnace filters reduce furnace efficiency and push up heating bills. They also shorten the life of a furnace.

Check and replace the furnace filter monthly in winter or every three months while the system is in operation. Your owner’s manual will tell you where it’s located. Hold the filter up to the light: If you can’t see light through it, you need a new one.

Pleated filters work best because they trap more dirt particles. Source: MoneyTalksNews

Inspect the chimney draft

Make sure the chimney will draw up the fire and smoke properly. Test this by taking several sheets of newspaper and rolling them up. Then with the fireplace damper in the open position, light the newspaper in the fireplace. The smoke should rise up the chimney. If it doesn’t, you have an obstruction and need to call a professional in to clean the chimney of creosote and ash and possible debris. Source: TheSpruce

Characteristics of Polyester Carpet

Are you thinking about giving your home a carpet makeover for Christmas? Consider choosing polyester carpet fibers. Here are some of its best characteristics:

Characteristics of Polyester Carpet

Eco-friendly

Many polyester carpets, called PET (polyethylene terephthalate) contain content made of recycled plastics such as water bottles. This can make polyester a “green” option, and also helps strengthen the fiber to help it last longer. Polyester is also naturally stain-resistant and easily recyclable. Source: HouseTipster

Durable

One noted weakness of polyester is that it is not as durable as nylon carpet fiber. Historically, polyester couldn’t come close to the strength of nylon and thus was recommended for lower-traffic areas of the home.

Today due to many technological advancements, the gap between polyester and nylon has been drastically reduced. Manufacturers have been working to improve the performance of polyester, and now polyester is stronger and more durable than ever before. Manufacturers are confident in the longevity of the new polyester, demonstrated by the longer warranties the higher-end polyesters now carry.

Whether its durability can match that of nylon, at this point, only time will tell. With this new generation of polyesters on the market, it will be a few years before we can fully compare their performance against both nylons and polyesters of the past.

Affordable

Relative to nylon, polyester carries a lower cost, due to the lower cost of raw materials and production. Thus, it is a great option for budget-driven renovations, and it offers good value for the money. Polyester carpets are available at almost every price point and quality, offering a vast selection of styles. Source: TheSpruce

Stain-resistant

Polyester is fairly easy to clean. Like olefin, it resists almost all water-based stains but is susceptible to oil stains. Once oil gets into the fibers, it’s difficult to remove. Polyester fiber carpets can shed individual fibers. They may also be susceptible to pilling, in which loose fibers become entangled with each other and form little particles on the surface. Source: Home.HowStuffWorks

Not sure whether polyester is the best option for you? We can help identify the best type of carpet to use for your budget and needs. Call us today!

3 Ways to Prepare Your Home for the Holidays

Pretty sure that by now you’ve heard Mariah’s hit song, “All I Want for Christmas is You” playing multiple times. This means that the holiday season is here, and parties will be more frequent from now on. Make sure your home is ready by doing the following tips:

3 Ways to Prepare Your Home for the Holidays

Prioritize the safety of children and pets

Holiday decorations can pose risks to children and pets. Both tend to be attracted to the delicate ornaments hanging on the bottom branches of Christmas trees, for instance, as well as to sparkling tinsel and ribbons that can be choking hazards. Cats may feel tempted to try to climb your tree, and your dog’s wagging tail can easily wreak havoc, too.

To keep your tree safe for pets and small children, stay away from tinsel, and put only shatterproof ornaments within reach of little hands and paws. Keep in mind that some traditional holiday plants can be toxic, including holly (particularly holly berries) and mistletoe, so make sure those are kept out of reach, too. And when it comes to lighting holiday candles, never leave those open flames unattended. Source: MentalFloss

Add a makeshift storage space with a single bar

When you need temporary clothes-hanging space around the house, keep an extra shower tension bar handy. Put it between the jambs in the laundry room door on heavy laundry days. Or, use it in the bedroom closet to pack for trips or stick it in the closet opening in the guest room/den so overnight guests can hang up their clothes. It’s a quick and easy way to gain an extra closet!  Source: FamilyHandyman

Prevent spills before they occur

Limit options but not the fun. Skip serving lots of sticky mixers and dark-colored wines or liquors, which can create tough-to-clean stains. Serve white wine, a sparkling option like Prosecco, beer, and a fun signature drink that you can premix. If you’re set on a festive punch, place the bowl in a non-carpeted space away from high-traffic areas. Source: GoodHousekeeping

Do you think your carpet does not look ready to welcome guests? We can clean your carpet and repair all kinds of damages to make it look new. Call us to book an appointment before slots run out!

3 Tips to Make Your Carpet Look New Again

When your flooring starts to look dull, you don’t have to spend lots of money to liven it up. Following these simple tips will surely take away years of wear and tear:

3 Tips to Make Your Carpet Look New Again

Get rid of stains using shaving foam

First, your carpet probably needs a spot-clean. An easy, low-cost solution to get rid of carpet stains is shaving cream. Spray the stain with some foam shaving cream (not the gel kind) and let it sit for 30 minutes.

Then, blot it with a clean cloth. This solution works on a wide range of stain types, including grease. Before you tackle the stain, do a test patch in an inconspicuous area of your carpet to ensure it won’t cause any discoloration.  Source: CNet

Brighten your carpet using salt

Combine equal parts HOT WATER and equal parts SALT, and apply to your rug with a damp cloth. Although you don’t need an ocean of the mixture applied (it will leave salt deposits that you’ll need to re-rinse out later), you’ll want to use enough that it will transfer from the rag or sponge to your rug. Give this trick a spot test to ensure that your particular rug can take the hot water, though most all rugs are able to hold up to this type of method. If you’re worried, try using a dry towel placed over the areas to help blot any excess moisture back up. Source: ApartmentTherapy

Colour it new

Mix dye according to package instructions. Pre-mixed dye is ready to go, but powdered dye needs to be mixed with water. Use the mixing instructions on the package as a guide, but realize the advantage of powdered dye is your ability to use more or less, depending on the intensity of color you’re looking for.

Apply dye to your carpet or rug. Take your time and apply the dye slowly and evenly over the carpet or rug. Try to avoid going over any area more than once or you’ll have some spots that are darker than others. Source: WikiHow

If the pieces of advice above aren’t enough, then call us! We can give vitality to your dead-looking carpet.

3 Ways to Clean Carpet without a Vacuum Cleaner

Having carpet at home doesn’t necessarily mean that you also need to have a vacuum cleaner. It could definitely make things easier if you have one, but if you want to skip it or buy one later, then you can do the following for the mean time:

3 Ways to Clean Carpet without a Vacuum Cleaner

Use a carpet sweeper

Sweepers are relatively affordable tools that you simply run across your carpet to help pick up dirt. They do not require electricity and are much quieter than a vacuum, so you can clean anytime and anywhere. Run a sweeper across your carpets for quick crumb removal or dirty shoe trails.

  • Carpet sweepers have brushes that may need to be replaced periodically when they become filthy or too run down.
  • Carpet sweepers cannot handle the dirt capacity of a whole house, so if you’re cleaning each room you may need to clean out the bristles as you go.
  • Empty out the sweeper regularly so you don’t spread dirt around your house instead of cleaning it. Source: WikiHow

Get an old-fashioned broom

If you have a whole carpet to clean, the best way to clean a carpet without a machine is with an old-fashioned broom. It’s important to use one with stiff, natural bristles – a soft synthetic broom just won’t cut it this time.

Whatever comes out of your carpet whilst you’re doing this you’ll need to pick it up. Make sure you have a dustpan at the ready and maybe some rubber gloves for anything that’s difficult to sweep up. Source: Cleanipedia

Deep clean with vinegar

To start, fill the bucket with warm water and ¼ cup white vinegar. Take the scrub brush and dip it into the bucket. Start to scrub the carpet with the cleaning solution. You want enough of the mixture on the scrub brush to get the carpet a little wet, but not saturated.

Once you’ve scrubbed the carpet, empty the bucket and fill it with fresh water. Dip a rag, or terry cloth towel, into the bucket. Ring it out and start to scrub the carpet again. After you’ve made a second pass over the carpet, let it dry thoroughly. To help speed the drying process along, you can turn on a floor fan. Source: TipsBulletin

Nothing beats professional cleaning once in a while to ensure that you get rid of deep-seated dirt in your carpet. Call us to book an appointment, today!

3 Useful Tips When Moving Furniture Across Carpeted Floor

Moving to a new home, or simply redesigning your existing place means that you’ll probably have to move furniture around, until you’re satisfied with how everything looks. Follow the tips below to avoid causing damage to your back during the process:

Remove everything inside the furniture

Most of us forget to do this and try to move everything when it’s all loaded up. Take the time to empty your furniture out. Not only will it make it lighter, it’ll prevent something from falling out accidentally and creating a big mess. Source: ApartmentTherapy

Use a shoulder dolly to lift

A shoulder dolly uses your legs and shoulders to lift items. The load feels lighter since it frees your hands. Bending over isn’t necessary, allowing for proper upright posture. This equipment includes straps and harnesses for 2 people, so make sure you have a partner. It’s one-size-fits-all and adjustable to different heights.

  • A shoulder dolly can lift up to 1000 pounds. It moves furniture seamlessly across carpet and other surfaces.
  • Fit the webbing through the buckles, and attach it together. Place the webbing directly under the furniture, and carefully lift to move it to your desired location. Use your hands to stabilize the furniture so it doesn’t fall over. Source: WikiHow

Buy sliders or gliders

After wrapping up your furnishings in moving blankets, use sliders to move the furniture. These sliders (or gliders as they’re sometimes called) can easily be found online (tip: check Amazon). Sliders are special pads made of either plastic, rubber or felt that fit underneath furniture legs. Once placed underneath the furniture, you’ll be able to easily glide the item across the floor without scratching up your hardwood. Furniture sliders are perfect for couches, dressers, tables and heavy appliances. Source: Moving

5 Vacuum Cleaner Maintenance Tips

Keeping your carpet clean requires a good deal of regular vacuuming. However, if the vacuum itself isn’t clean, you may just be spreading dust around instead of collecting it. Here are some tips you should follow:5 Vacuum Cleaner Maintenance Tips

Take care of the cord

Avoid pulling out the plug with the cord or using the automatic rewind when the cord is tangled or obstructed.

Switch the bag before it gets full

Remember a bag shouldn’t be full to the brim before it is changed, as vacuum cleaners can lose suction when bags are more than half full.  Source: Cleanipedia

Check the filter

If your vacuum uses a replaceable paper filter, check it every week when you check the bag. Many filters can be rinsed clean, dried, and reused. A filter that is torn or very dirty should be replaced. A blocked filter will also prevent the free flow of air through the vacuum. Never use the vacuum without the filter. For HEPA filters, follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Source: MarthaStewart

Find the right settings and accessories

Most vacuum cleaners have height settings for different surfaces. Having a vacuum set too low when in use on a carpet can lead to extra pressure on the motor and brush roller. You should also make use of the correct accessories for special circumstances. For example, don’t use the carpet cleaning head for a wooden floor.

Remove accumulated dirt

Some parts of a vacuum cleaner accumulate dirt. Areas around the brush roller can get caked with dirt which should be cleaned off regularly. The brush roller should be cleaned frequently. It is particularly important to remove any fibers that have been wound around the roller bearings. Source: DoItYourself

We can help you deal with all types of carpet-related problems. Stains, cuts, burns – we can repair any damage and make it look like new again. Give us a call!

Prepare For Bathroom Remodeling With This Handy Checklist

Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com

12640269_10153561415284811_3349737664275668475_oBefore you begin any remodeling project, it’s important to make sure that you have everything you will need to complete the work correctly, and in a timely manner. A bathroom renovation is a big project for homeowners to tackle, so preparation is the key to ensuring that it goes as smoothly as possible. Use this handy checklist with tips as a guide:

Set your budget. Your budget is arguably the most important aspect of any bathroom remodeling project. Determine your budget ahead of time, and then keep it at the top of the checklist. As you purchase items and pay for services, keep track of how much you’re spending. Many projects go over budget, but by setting a reasonable number at the start and pricing services and materials beforehand, you can try to keep costs under control.

Hiring professionals, or DIYDetermine which aspects of the renovation project will you tackling yourself, and which ones will you be hiring out to the pros:

  1. Demo
  2. Layout/floor plan design
  3. Flooring installation
  4. Tile work
  5. Fixture installation
  6. Plumbing
  7. Electrical

If you are going to hire professionals, you’ll want to contact several to get information and cost estimates. Choose a contractor that has a good reputation and recommendations from satisfied clients. They should be able to give you an estimate for the work to be done, as well as a time line for when the work will be completed.

Select your materials. Choosing the materials that you will use may be one of the most difficult and time consuming aspects of a remodel. Determine what items you want to replace and purchase, such as:

  1. Vanity
  2. Flooring
  3. Tiles
  4. Fixtures
  5. Faucet and shower head
  6. Paint color
  7. Countertop
  8. Shelving
  9. Sink

If you aren’t sure about the design, you may consider working with a professional designer who can help to guide you through the process. There are many details to consider, and you want to be sure that you get everything that you want.

Finally, before any work can begin, you need to make sure that you have any necessary work permits. Check with your local building authority to see what you may need. Once you have your permits, have found a contractor, and have settled on the design, you’re ready to get the bathroom remodeling project underway.

How to Choose the best bathtubs for Hydrotherapy

Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com

NOTE TO SELF… this ARTICLE NEEDS TO BE SPUN AND Parts rewritten before publishing and rechecked for originality.

How to Choose the Best Hydrotherapy Tub

If you want the ultimate spa experience for your new bathroom, chances are you’re looking at tubs that provide hydrotherapy.  The use of hydrotherapy has been around for centuries, providing therapeutic solutions for people with arthritis, muscle aches, partial paralysis, and more. Those massaging jet streams you enjoy when you soak in a Jacuzzi or hot tub don’t have to be a once-in-a-life time luxury. Instead, they can be a permanent part of your bathroom that you enjoy on a daily or weekly basis. But out of the numerous tub options that are available today, how do you decide which one is right for you? It all depends on your specific needs and what works best with the design of your bathroom.

Air Tubs
Air tubs have several unique features, but the primary difference between them and other hydrotherapy tubs is that they work by releasing thousands of tiny, relaxing air bubbles throughout the tub. These stimulate your muscles and help reduce the pain associated with things like arthritis and excessive exercise. Another feature of air tubs is that they envelope the body in champagne-like fizz that gently caresses the skin. These tubs also stimulate and invigorate touch receptors to mildly release tension associated with tension and stress. These bubbles also appeal to multiple senses, including a blend of aromatherapy bath oils. Air tubs optimize your bathing experience by implementing a tub cleaning system that makes your life easier over time by taking off some of the pressure of frequently cleaning and maintaining your tub over time. Not only will the experience feel delightful, but it will be a constant source of physical therapy whenever you feel the need for it.

whirlpool bathtub with glass sides

Whirlpool Tubs
Whirlpool tubs are just what they sound like: tubs that move water strategically to create increased pressure that circulates. Whirlpool tubs also normally feature air jets that can be used for massage purposes in addition to the way they help circulate the water in the tub. Whirlpool tubs soothe muscles instantly through a stronger deep tissue massage. If you are experiencing severe muscle soreness or simply want the ultimate massage experience, a whirlpool tub might be the best option for your new bathroom. Whirlpool tubs often create a customized bathing experience with adjustable jets to fit your body and hit the places of soreness. Whirlpool tubs often maintain a comfortable bath water temperature when used with an inline heater. This can prevent the water from becoming scalding hot, as well as keep the temperature at an event state so that you do not have to leave more quickly due to the plummeting water temperature.

best hydotherapy bathtubs

Total Massage Tubs
Perhaps one of the best options for the ultimate spa experience is the total massage tub. With a total massage tub, you will enjoy luxury and sophistication every time you walk into your bathroom. Total massage tubs blend the technology of air tubs and whirlpool tubs to create a symphony of fizzy bubbles and pressurized water. Total massage tubs provide ultimate relaxation through the combined sensations of soft effervescence and targeted massage. Like the whirlpool tub, the total massage tub ensures optimal water temperature through the duration of your bath with an inline water heater. You can also enjoy a more advanced experience by incorporating any combination of aromatherapy oils into your bath. As the relaxing and detoxifying scents move into the air, you might even transcend reality for a few moments, enjoying the ecstasy of the moment. Total massage tubs also offer in-built tub cleaning systems that take the worry out of total massage tubs. Without the stress of maintaining your luxurious tub, you’ll be able to enjoy its features without hassle.

A Word on Design
Most suppliers will feature tubs of various shapes and sizes within the different tub categories so that you can be sure to enjoy the tub you want without sacrificing the design. However, it’s important to think how your tub will fit into your overall design plan before you begin construction. If possible, already have the specific tub in mind, along with its measurements and constraints so that you can perform your remodeling according to the tub of your dreams.

This is simply an overview of the different hydrotherapy tub features and we hope we’ve given you some points to consider when determining which one is right for your home. Do your own research and don’t be afraid to ask questions before making that final purchase.

Do you already enjoy the features of a hydrotherapy tub in your home? Which attributes were instrumental in helping you come to a decision? Leave your feedback in the comments below and let us know if there’s anything you like to consider that’s not included above!

Far Infrared Technology

Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com

Far Infrared Demonstration

Far Infrared

Infrared saunas are different from traditional saunas because they operate at a temperature of 90-145 F compared to a traditional sauna that operates at 185-230 F. This temperature allows you to be able to breathe comfortably and enjoy the benefits for extended periods of time. Because the infrared rays safely and comfortably penetrate the skin up to 2″ deep, even your organs and deep tissues are stimulated. This produces sweating 2-3 times as much as a traditional sauna. Infrared saunas use 20% of the infrared energy.

What are Far infrared rays?

Far infra-red rays are also known as FIR are absolutely safe and beneficial to the human body. They are so safe that even doctors use them in hospitals to warm newborn babies. FIR are naturally occurring and are the benign portion of sunlight that we can receive. To perfectly understand FIR, picture yourself sunbathing outside on a warm day and a cloud is overhead. As soon as the cloud moves on and the rays are now directly on your body you start to feel warmer. From the sun, your body is being heated by FIR.

Another good example would be placing a thermometer in the sun and one in the shade. The thermometer in the sun is warmed by FIR and will read higher, but the outside air temperature is still the same. Infrared heaters in the sauna work the same way as natural sunlight but without the damaging side effects of solar radiation.

Sunlight is the source of life on earth. Sadly, not all of the energy is beneficial. Sunlight is an element of a wide spectrum of frequencies, including ultraviolet and infrared rays. Visible sunlight is in the center of this spectrum. At a higher frequency are ultraviolet rays that are responsible for causing sunburn.

At a reduced frequency, however, are the gentle infrared rays. Infrared light is a result of heat production. Humans generate waves in the 6-20 micron range. The ideal output range of far infrared sauna emitters is between 5 and 14 microns which is very close to the resonant frequency of a water molecule. This coincidence makes sense since our bodies are almost 70% water. This range, appears to have great regenerative effects on the body.

Our heater’s output is uniformly spread around the 9.4 micron point of peak human output. As the water molecule resonates or vibrates, this vibration generates a release of cellular toxins such as aluminum, cholesterol, mercury and other toxic gases such as sulfur and formaldehyde. The energy output from the far infrared sauna corresponds so closely to the body’s radiant energy that our bodies absorb 96% of the energy.

4 Things You Should Remove From Your Bathroom

Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com

Keeping the bathroom clean should be a continuous effort.  If neglected, clutter will slowly pile up until the whole room starts to look messy. Start by removing the following:

Expired makeup
While it may look okay in the container, expired makeup can turn clumpy and also harbor bacteria which can cause an unfortunate reaction to your skin (think bumps or even infections). Toss and spring for some new products — your skin will thank you. Source: Today

Hotel toiletries
People are always tempted to stock up on the cute bottles of shampoo and conditioner when they stay at a hotel, but they aren’t necessary to keep and have take up space in your bathroom. It’s better to buy reusable bottles and fill them with your own body wash and lotions. Hale and Draddy suggest donating travel-sized toiletries from hotels to homeless shelters. Also, check with your local church or school because many times they collect them. “To help people let go of stuff it helps to know that it’s going to someone else. It’s a really good motivator,” said Draddy. Source: RD

Prescription antibiotics
First of all, get these out of your bathroom, says Shilpi Agarwal, MD, family medicine physician and author of The 10-Day Total Body Transformation.” Condensation can affect potency and make medication go bad quickly,” she explains. In or out of your bathroom, though, leftover prescription medications should always be thrown out by the expiration date. “Not only do you run the risk of not having a complete course, but also the medication may become ineffective,” says Dr. Agarwal. Taking expired medication can also cause you to develop antibiotic resistance, which will make it useless when you really need it. Source: Health

Toilet brush
It’s an item we’d all rather not think about, right? It’s a gross implement used to swipe away at an even grosser fixture. Well, chances are you’re not soaking your brush every month to kill extra bacteria and possible odors. And, since toilet brushes are fairly cheap, shoot for throwing yours away every year to avoid a case of the shudders next time you need to use it. Source: WiseBread

The bathroom is a place where you should be able to wash all your worries away. It should be a place where you can relax as you soak in a warm bath. However, if your bathroom fixtures are outdated, it may just stress you out instead. 4 Bathroom Design Mistakes to Avoid

Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com

Are you planning on doing a bathroom remodel anytime soon? To avoid wasting time and money, make sure you steer clear from the following mistakes:

Forgetting to include storage space
Anyone who has ever lived in a bathroom with inadequate storage knows what an epic pain it is to find room for toiletries, towels, extra toilet paper, and cleaning supplies elsewhere in your house. Unfortunately, too many people design their bathrooms and completely forget about storage, says MacEachern. In addition to allotting room for cabinets and shelves, he advises leaving yourself at least 30 inches of counter space—and if you don’t have the room, try to compensate with extra wall-hung storage. Source: ApartmentTherapy

Believing that bigger is better
That’s right: Bigger isn’t better; better is better. Whether you’re designing a large master bathroom in your dream home or trying to figure out how to squeeze in an extra bathroom for your growing family, the most important aspect of your new bathroom is that it has a great design that functions efficiently for your specific lifestyle.

The truth is, great design is less about how a bathroom looks (although it’s always nice when it looks fantastic) and more about how it works. Great design translates to a house that functions better, costs less to build, is more efficient to maintain and gets you more for less. Source: Houzz

Rearranging fixtures without a plan
If you’re renovating an existing bathroom and the layout already makes sense, think carefully before switching sanitaryware around. Moving pipes can quickly become expensive and can raise more problems than it solves. If you do want to switch things up, make sure you consult a plumber first to make sure your plan is feasible. Source: LoveProperty

Using only one source of light
Are you settling with simply the overhead lighting in your bathroom? If so, you’re doing yourself a disservice. Layered lighting is key to creating a truly functional room, and the bathroom is no exception. Layered lighting makes grooming routines, such as shaving or putting on makeup, a whole lot easier. Source: Freshome

4 Ways to Save Water in the Bathroom

Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com

With news of global warming, melting ice caps, and burning rainforest making headlines more frequently, we need to join forces in making an effort to avoid irreversible damage to our planet. Help by avoiding water wastage using these tips:

Conserve bath water
Check the water temperature as the bath fills, to avoid running it too hot and then having to add lots of cold water to cool it down.

Check the plug in the bath to make sure it isn’t letting out any water. Add a metal strainer to the plug hole to prevent hair and other solids clogging outlet pipes.

Consider installing a grey water system to recycle water from the bath, shower and basin. The water can be used on the garden, for flushing the toilet, even for washing clothes. Source: ReadersDigest

Install a faucet aerator
Adding an aerator to your faucet will add air to the flow of water, giving you a more stable stream while also using less water overall. These can be very easily installed – most simply screw into place – and cost an average of $5. Source: WikiHow

Turn off water when not in use
You can use even less water in the shower by switching off the water when you don’t need it. One you’ve wet yourself down, you can switch off the water while you soap up, shave, or wash your hair, and then switch it back on to rinse off. If you can switch off the shower water for just two minutes a day, you can save another 150 gallons a month. Source: MoneyCrashers

Watch out for leaks
Check for toilet leaks regularly by putting dye in the tank. If there is a leak, the dye will appear in the bowl without flushing. Toilet leaks are also very wasteful; make sure to get it repaired right away (or do it yourself). Keeping your toilet in good condition will save water in the long run. Source: TheSpruce

Clean & tidy, not your typical waste room

We all want to do our best for the environment. In our daily lives that begins with household recycling and garbage.

Municipalities throughout Metro Vancouver have added various initiatives to encourage recycling, and they’ve also added financial penalties to trash haulers who have recyclables in their garbage pickups.

Regulation changes have continued with the addition of organic waste, aiming to separate out food scraps and reduce overall waste by another 30%.

That is all well and good, but most building’s waste rooms exist somewhere between messy, disgusting and revolting. What if your property could start to resolve this issue?

It may be as simple as organizing the space, adding colour to the walls, and encouraging greater respect for common areas.

The idea began with recognizing that people need to understand quickly how to sort their recycling and waste products. Otherwise, confused by a room full of green bins, blue containers, and garbage cans, many people give up and toss it in the closest bin.

By organizing the space, it shows an increased commitment to resolving an ongoing problem.

By colour coding with coordinated bins and wall colours,  it clarifies and simplifies what goes where. The result will be a clean & tidy waste room.

If you are encouraged by the idea, contact us 604-882-5155 or info@remdal.com, and we’ll meet you, discuss your situation and provide a Waste Room Makeover proposal for your property.

How to Keep the Bathroom Smelling Fresh

Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com

If you notice that you’re always scrunching your nose every time you enter the bathroom, then it’s obvious how badly you need a solution to the odour problem. Take note of these quick fixes:

Turn on the exhaust fan
In fact, wire it to your light switch so it’s always on when the bathroom is in use. It’s the best way to vent moisture that can seep into cracks and crevices and become a breeding ground for mold, mildew bacteria and odor. Source: Home.HowStuffWorks

Eliminate odors
Many people keep a spray bottle on the back of the toilet to freshen the bathroom after use. If you go this route, invest in products labeled “odor eliminator” over simple air fresheners.

  • Air fresheners cover the smell. They do not actually eliminate the odor and the smell will remain once the product wears off. If the smell is strong, it may even be detectable over the scent of the air freshener.
  • Odor eliminators seek to neutralize odors. They cover smells quicker and more effectively. When at your local supermarket, look for products identified as odor eliminators. There are a wide variety of odor eliminators on the market, so you may have to do some trial and error before you find a product that works for you. You can read product reviews online to get a sense of which products work most effectively at eliminating odors. Source: SFGate

Get rid of damp towels
Make sure to hang your towels to dry after every use, and to wash them at least once a week. (This includes hand towels and washcloths.) Use bleach if possible; if not, use the hottest water you can to kill the bacteria that finds its way into the folds.

Never hang your towels at the back of a door–this will slow the drying process and let bacteria multiply, causing bad smells. Source: TheSpruce

4 Tips to Spruce Up a Boring Bathroom

Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com

Do you find your bathroom a bit lackluster, and in need of a good update? Here are easy styling tips you can use to create a space that will let you relax before or after a day of hard work:

Small changes can go a long way
Go for small but obvious touches of luxurious that won’t cost a ton. If you love a particularly type of rug that’s too expensive for your budget, buy it in a smaller size instead. Hang up your favorite robes or splurge on one fancy towel you love. Add in fresh flowers. Arrange your toiletries in new bottles on a DIY tray. Pay attention to small details (that often cost less than big ones!). Source: ApartmentTherapy

Choose glass over tiles
Rather than tiling, many bathroom connoisseurs are opting for a glass splash back. Why? Because it’s available in a wide range of colours and can be wiped clean easily. Best of all, it won’t become grimy over the years (like tiles), which means you’ll enjoy a fancy looking bathroom for years to come. Source: ArchitectureArtDesigns

Add a pop of color
We’ve all done it, or at least thought about a DIY painting project. There are many trendy options when it comes to painting your bathroom. You can add texture, paint one wall or paint all of the walls, but the idea is to use the paint to make a bold statement. Make sure your décor flows nicely with the chosen paint color. Use paint to transform your bathroom from boring, to bold, bright and beautiful. Don’t be afraid to work with textures and patterns. Source: Improvenet

Relax in a whirlpool tub
Nowadays, many have ditched their bathtubs in favor of a walk-in shower. However, large soaking tubs will never go out of style.

Nothing says luxury like relaxing in a hot bubble bath at the end of a hard day. To make your tub truly luxurious, choose a beautiful stone composite tub with a bronze finish to create a sleek, modern appeal. Complement this look with a romantic stone water cascade for a relaxing feel that’s reminiscent of a pampering spa day. Source: AngiesList

A bathroom is a safe haven that gives you some time alone to think about all your worries and wash them away. It shouldn’t cause you any stress. If you have outdated fixtures that irk you every time you look at them, then maybe it’s best you replace them. We can help you on that matter. Give us a call, today!

4 Ways to Feel Better From Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com

The symptoms that come with having an invisible illness, such as chronic fatigue syndrome, can make living more challenging than usual. To make life much easier, you can do the following:

Infrared sauna
If you or someone you care about suffers from chronic fatigue, regular use of an infrared sauna can be a gentle but effective natural therapy that is an excellent complement to a comprehensive chronic fatigue treatment protocol. Aim for 15 minutes in a far infrared sauna followed by a 30 minute rest under some blankets along with a large glass of filtered water. Source: UniversityHealthNews

Exercise
A physical therapist can help determine what exercises are best for you. Inactive people often begin with range-of-motion and stretching exercises for just a few minutes a day. Gradually increasing the intensity of your exercise over time may help reduce your hypersensitivity to exercise, just like allergy shots gradually reduce a person’s hypersensitivity to a particular allergen. Source: MayoClinic

Routine changes
Patients are often initially encouraged to slow down, minimize physical exertion and try to avoid psychological stress. They learn to save their energy for essential activities at home or work and to cut back on less-important activities. Source: Health.Harvard

Diet
Watching what you eat can help you manage your symptoms. Avoid any foods or chemicals you are sensitive to.

A diet rich in polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats, avoiding saturated fats and refined carbohydrates—like the Mediterranean Diet—is reported by many people with ME/CFS to be helpful.Eat several small meals throughout the day. For example, three meals and three snacks might help keep energy levels up.

Smaller meals might also help control nausea, which sometimes happens with chronic fatigue syndrome. To help control energy levels, it’s also a good idea to avoid these things:

  • Sugar
  • Sweeteners
  • Alcohol
  • Caffeine Source: WebMD

Spending time in a sauna can help you feel better, not just from chronic fatigue syndrome, but from a number of other ailments as well. We can help you get a sauna for your home. Check out our website today!

Most Relaxing Ways to Burn Calories

Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com

Looking for a less intense way to burn fat on your rest day? Here are some things that you can do to relax and get healthier at the same time:

Sweat inside a sauna
According to the Mayo Clinic’s health education website, your body composition, sex, and age are determining factors on how many calories you burn during any given day, even when you are resting; this is known as your basal metabolic rate (BMR). A person weighing around 160 lbs. will burn burn about 300 calories during a 30-minute session in the sauna. That number changes based on your individual BMR, in addition to the temperature settings in the sauna and the amount of time you spend in the heat. Source: LiveStrong

Have a full-body massage
File this under our favorite way to burn calories ever. Lying still on a massage table for an hour-long session can burn approximately 67 calories. While this isn’t enough to make you, say, drop a dress size, it sure beats hitting the treadmill. Source: PureWow

Hit the dance floor with your friends
If your friends like to hit happy hour or eat out when they get together, change the plan to burn more calories. Go dancing with your friends to burn extra calories. Thirty minutes of casual dancing burns about 100 calories. But the benefits don’t end there. If choose a dance club instead of eating out, you skip the high-calorie restaurant meal and build a calorie deficit for weight loss even faster. Source: VeryWellFit

Laugh more often
Exercising your funny bone can be an effective way to torch calories. Researchers at Vanderbilt University monitored study participants’ emotional reactions to various video clips, finding that the participants who laughed had a 20 percent increase in calorie-burn, Fox News reports. Ten to 15 minutes of “genuine giggling” could burn off the number of calories found in one medium square of chocolate, or enough calories to lose about four and a half pounds per year, according to the study. Bathroom Vanity Designing Tips

Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com

A well-designed vanity is a great addition to any bathroom. It can add storage and diminish time spent on your morning and nighttime routines. As you plan the style of vanity you want, don’t forget the following pointers:

Determine the style you want
Once you find the layout that best suits your bathroom and determine how many sinks you want, the next step is to decide on the vanity design. Do you prefer traditional cabinets? An antique furniture piece? A pedestal sink?

If you want traditional vanity cabinets, there are several factors to consider:

  • Do you want a paint or stain?
  • What color do you prefer?
  • What type of door style do you want?
  • Do you want drawers, doors or pullouts?

Vanity cabinets don’t have to be built-ins. Free-standing vanities aren’t attached to any walls and can have open shelving in lieu of closed cabinets. They also can feature furniture-style details.

Another style is a floating vanity, which is mounted to the wall and has open space below. This contemporary bathroom’s tile vanity has open shelving, but you can also find pieces with closed cabinetry.

Repurposing a family heirloom, such as an antique dresser or table stand, can add time-tested character to your vanity. Source: Houzz

Choose the type of sink
The next step is to determine the type of sink, such as undermount, drop-in, vessel or wall-mount. After that, choose the color and material for your sink, whether it’s porcelain, natural stone or something else. Source: Forbes

Add more storage
Once you’ve made sure that you have the basics down, that your vanity will actually fit in your space and that it’ll serve all the major functions that you need it to, I definitely recommend adding in a few more storage features. Ask your in-store designer if your cabinet maker can make some of the ideas that you gathered before work in your cabinet design, or if she/he has any suggestions for things that you may not have thought about. There are so many neat, simple options that make storing your stuff, and using it on a daily basis about a million times better! Source: CreeklineHouse

Are you looking for a vanity that won’t require your designing skills, time, and lots of money, but is still perfect for your bathroom and your needs? Browse our collection on our website and call us if you need anything!

Bathroom Styling Tips From the Experts

Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com

Create a bathroom that will inspire you to be happy even on a Monday morning as you prepare for work. Simply do the following:

Have a lot of storage space
Storage is a concern in many bathrooms, but shrewd choices can make it a complementary part of interior design for bathrooms. If towels are colorful and plush, it may be suitable to have them visible on decorative racks or open niches, whereas more prosaic linens and other items (bubble bath, body products, etc.) may be in a small closets inset into the walls. Medicine cabinets are a necessity, and may be inset into the wall (behind a mirror is a popular choice) or freestanding to provide a small shelf above and hooks below. Some products may actually be stored in the bathtub or shower on corner racks, while over-the-door hooks provide additional storage options for pajamas or robes. Source: InteriorDesign.LoveToKnow

Think about future upgrades
Planning for universal design features, such as wider door openings, grab bars, and other accessible features are smart to design into the job, no matter what age you are. Source: CarlaAston

Style with purpose
Opt for functional accessories like trays, candles and canisters. Trays help to keep things visually tidy. Display one on a vanity with ample counter space, or on the back of the toilet for smaller bathrooms and powder rooms. Candles are pretty and, well…always appreciated in a bathroom! Canisters a great way to add style and personality while making bath necessities, such as cotton balls and Q-tips, easy to get to on a daily basis. Source: StyleMePretty

Start with a neutral design
You have to design the room the same way you’d plan on wearing your little black dress – dress it up or down, just keep it neutral because it’s really about how you put the jewellery on – in this case, the fittings and hardware. If you’re trying to do something on a budget, you’ll have the best outcome if you keep it simple. Source: StyleAtHome

A bathroom will look so much better if the fixtures you use are classy and high-end. Browse our website to see the latest designs!
